Rosh Hashanah Table and Kids Activities

When pumpkin spice lattes start popping up, we know that the High Holidays are just around the corner. This year they are later than usual, starting in early October. That means fall will be in full effect this year. For those of us in the colder states, our jackets are coming out and it will be a very chilly and refreshing holiday season.

First up, Rosh Hashanah!!! The holiday filled with all of the sweet treats in cookie, cake, and fruit forms. I like adding a little something new to my table each year to feel extra special and add to the feeling of having a fresh new year.

This year is Ian's first Rosh Hashanah, having been born the day after, and with it being so late, the perk is he will be able to enjoy the holiday with us, at least the first night. He will also be able to have his first taste of honey. Apples are already a fan favorite, especially the ones form our fiji tree in the backyard. We are beyond grateful to our weather this year that we got so many great apples from our tree. Last year the hail took out majority of the apple flowers at the start of the summer.

For Laila, I am going to put together a little holiday gift basket for her. It will help the long three day yuntive go a little smoother, and she will be able to learn, read, and play with us and on her own. We already have a collection of books from our local library. It is amazing how many Rosh Hashanah/Jewish book options that have. I would like to keep putting in requests for more books because its a great way to increase awareness and inclusion of our traditions within the library setting.

I hope these suggestions of kids ideas and some new table additions help make your new year sweet, refreshing, and meaningful.
