Getting a good nights rest can really be so powerful in helping you feel happy.

When it comes to being able to sleep, that is one area I have struggled with since I was a kid. Not because I am a night owl, but because my mind is constantly going and the dark bedroom only encourages me to sit (or lay in this case) with my thoughts further.
There have always been two key components for me to get a good nights rest, routine and a bedroom oasis. This is called sleep hygiene, meaning having a regular sleep schedule with the bedroom being a place from sleep and bedroom specific activities. It really is amazing how big of an impact that has!
Every night I make sure that I put away my phone (I need to be better about all technology) by 9:00pm. I actually have it automatically silence from 9pm to 7am every day, with only my select emergency contacts being able to cause my phone to ring.
I then proceed to start my evening shower and pampering. I like a nighttime shower so I feel clam and fresh when I get into bed. Part of that freshness is being fully moisturized. With wanting to stay as organic as possible, my favorite thing to use is coconut oil. The problem with coconut oil is it ruins your clothing and sheets. So, I switched to my new lifesaver, the Honest Organic Body Oil. I never miss a night with it and it has really helped keep me hydrated, especially at the Colorado altitude.
Once my body is ready, I move to my face. I never used any face products until a few months before our wedding. That is when I came across Juice Beauty, an organic company. My favorite items are the Cleansing Milk, Organic Treatment Oil, and nutrient Moisturizer. I find that if I use these regularly, I really do have smoother, softer, and healthier skin.
Now that I feel clean and relaxed from my pampering session, I can get into my cloud of a bed. If I want a good nights rest, I need to feel as safe and comfortable as possible. First is the mattress. We currently have the Avocado Green Mattress topper and love it so much that my sister has one too!
Second, is a quality pillow. I wish I had a particular brand to recommend, but I truly believe only you can decide by testing them out. After years of back and neck pain, I have rotated through so many pillows. Harvard Medical School provides a great reference article explaining that two of the best materials are feather and memory foam. I have one of each and change it out based on how I am feeling that night.
To top it all off, I have my eye mask, the most important accessory for sleep. I have been using one since middle school and it came in handy when I shared a room with my sister or college roommate. I currently have found to really enjoy the ones by Slip. I got mine from Bloomingdales. It is soft and light weight and has matching pillowcases! Having something smooth and silky to rest my face on makes me feel like I am ready to let the world fall to the wayside and just melt into my bed.
Getting a good nights rest can be challenging. We have so many responsibilities that it is easy to forgo sleep. The thing is, sleep is essential to being a productive functioning human being and can boost your immune system! So sleep really can help with feeling healthier. Valuing my routine and creating a bedroom that I look forward to being in has allowed me to give myself the 7-8 hours of sleep that my body wants and needs.
Let me know what are some of your favorite ways of winding down and getting your best sleep!
Zoey says, "happy sleeping!"
